5 Things I Wish We Did Sooner

Updated: Feb 29

5 things I wish I would have implemented sooner at Synovial Marketing to make us more profitable and efficient in business.

Everyone has those could of should of moments in life and in business that if you could go back in time with the knowledge you have now you would implement. in this post we talk about the 5 things we would have implemented sooner in Synovial Marketing so that hopefully you can learn from them and start them in your business.

Take it from us if you want a highly profitable well oiled business, implement these 5 things sooner rather than later. You won't be sorry!

#1 - Took The Business Seriously

One of my biggest regrets in business is that I didn't take my business seriously. In the beginning I was working an 8-5 job as well as the agency and didn't really view at it as big business. Synovial Marketing was my secret side hustle that I worked on the weekends or to a stranger at the local market. I wish i would have had the confidence in the beginning to make business connections sooner.

From the beginning think of your business as a big business. Even if you are just a one person team plan and promote your business as a big business. I know one of my big fears and mistakes I made was not introducing myself as a marketing executive. In the beginning I was scared to announce that I was in marketing (Imposter Syndrome is a real thing). I didn't feel like I was amazing at marketing yet and didn't have my team behind me so I didn't want to announce I had a marketing agency.

In doing this I lost a lot of potential clients. People cant buy from you if they don't know what you do or what you have to offer. I think everyone especially in the beginning feels nervous and apprehensive but I'm here to tell you it's okay. Take the leap and start introducing yourself and your business in the beginning and see what happens. I promise you wont regret it.

#2 - Started An Email List

I do have to say I started my email list relatively early. With my business being B2B I started collecting emails and networking at local craft markets. I would talk to the creators and owners of the businesses and get their business cards to add to my forming email list. I thought that if I made the connection face to face and then stayed with them long term maybe eventually they would need my services and know me from my emails.

If you haven't started your email list, START IT! Starting an email list is essentially free in the sense that it costs nothing but the monthly email service fee to keep your businesses name in your clients mind. I know there is a lot of talk about email being a dying way of communication and people not opening their email but let me tell you we have seen way different statistics and results from our emails list.

59% of respondents say marketing emails influence their purchase decisions and 80% of business professionals believe that email marketing increases customer retention.

I will forever advocate that email is one of the best ways to communicate with your audience. Think of that email you just sent to their inbox as a personal conversation. Where Instagram can feel very generic and talking to the masses, emails feel personal and more one- on- one if done correctly.

#3 - Implemented Systems

A business can't survive without systems and processes. I don't know who I thought I was out here just willy nilly one man teaming it without proper systems in place. Especially if you are still in the space of doing it on your own and not ready to hire, you need to put programs and procedures in place so nothing falls through the cracks!

We talk a lot about consistency in business. One of the best ways I know to be consistent is to have a system and program in place to do things for you. We love some automation around here. Even if it's just one automation in place at least you know that that one piece of your business will be consistent without fail.

Now this automation can be in your email marketing in that you have an email written up and schedule it to be sent out every week, or you can have a system as in how you batch your content and how it is scheduled to be posted. I wish I would have sat down sooner and fledged out and put in place systems and processes in my business so that there was more consistency in the beginning. With our systems today, we get content and material out weekly and are able to better serve our clients and have very few things fall through the cracks.

#4 - Created A Team

As a business owner, I cannot do everything by myself. For the longest time I tried believe me. I still remember the first time I hired someone off Fiver to do a task for me. It felt amazing! To be completely honest I began wondering what else I could outsource in life. My house cleaning service did come from this thought and from them I am forever grateful.

I wish I would have hired my team sooner. One of the biggest lessons I've learned is we can be our own bottleneck in our business. By thinking that I have to do everything and be in everything I made my business small. My business couldn't grow because I was holding it back. I was just one person. As soon as I started allowing people in and handing tasks off my business grew 10 fold. There will never be another one of me but there has to be more people taught the skills that I have so that there is 5 people who are 80% of who I am and have 10% of their own talents to bring to the table.

If you hire a team based off your employee being 75 to 80 % as good as you that will yield you amazing results. No one will ever be as good or as dedicated to your business as you but you have to give your business capacity to do more. Now instead of making 10 items, with a team you could produce a 100. Now instead of 10 consultations you could have 20 booked and working.

Even if you're not at the point of hiring big get in the habit of practicing delegation. Even on small tasks hire a VA (virtual assistant) to manage your emails or just make a post a week on your social media. Hiring along with systems will make your business consistent and profitable.

#5 - Invested In Myself

One of the best things you can do for yourself and your small business is invest in yourself and your small business. In the beginning I tried to figure everything out myself. I wanted to save money and figure it out through Trial and error. I very quickly realized that this was not the way to go. if I wanted to learn skills and scale up in my business I would have to pay someone that had been through the process.

Not only knowledge but its important to invest in things for your business as well. I know we are a marketing agency and will push investing in digital assets but investing in a website and curated social media is important. I am a firm believer that you get what you pay for and just like your child you should only want the best in the important aspects for your business.

Invest in the courses, Invest in the website, Invest in the employees take a chance on yourself and your business and watch it flourish.

Take It From Us

Overall I'm happy with how Synovial Marketing has grown and formed into the business it is today. Without the mistakes and road blocks along the way, I don't think it would be the business it is today and be able to serve people how it does today. It was a long road to get here! If you take anything from this just believe in yourself in your business and don't be afraid to go out there and invest in yourself and show people your talents.
